Hello, this is Mikel with TinyFrog Technologies. I want to talk a little bit today about animations on a website. Animations are becoming more and more popular.
A lot of companies want their websites to be a little bit more dynamic, a little bit more interesting, which makes perfect sense because when someone lands on your website, you want to create a connection with that visitor.
You want to encourage engagement, to keep them on the website as well. You want to make sure that your website is is creating a good user experience. So, animation can definitely help with that.
Avoid Distracting Animations
If it’s not done and used in the proper way at the proper time, in the proper place, it can actually be more distracting. We actually call it “visual bullying” when you land on a website that has a lot of movement that’s unnecessary or not really applicable to the user it actually can be more distracting.
So it’s important to be discerning when you’re going to use animation on a website. You can use it as a way to create, you know, a slight wow factor and to draw people’s attention to certain areas.
Micro Animations & Video
Micro animations, like nice hover over, and scroll animation as you scroll down the page having some things come in and move in, animate can be a really good way to make your site slightly more dynamic without going overboard.
Oftentimes you’ll land on websites nowadays that have in the very top of the homepage like a video or animated backdrop. Oftentimes that’s an actual video and that can be a really good thing to do if the video is not overwhelming, if it ties into the theme of the website, if it’s applicable and relevant for your viewers. That can be a really nice way to add animation.
Custom Animations
And also some others like custom animations can be helpful, but it’s really important that the person who’s doing the animating and is making those recommendations knows what they’re doing in terms of when and how and where and we have a lot of experience with animation, how to use it, and and when it’s best to use it.
So if you are interested in or have any questions about how and when to use an animation for your website, definitely feel free to give us a call.
