You may be wondering, “What’s a frog got to do with it?” Well, you’ve come to the right place to find out!
Here at TinyFrog, not only do we have a passion for providing our clients with the utmost perfection in WordPress hosting and maintenance, but we also have a passion for tiny creatures called Baja California Treefrogs, which are what helped us become who we are today! Grounding our roots in 2003, TinyFrog Technologies is a San Diego-based web agency with a conversion-based outlook on web design, offering targeted solutions to improve your business’ bottom line.
Fun fact: We protect over 600 sites nationwide from croaking (no pun, intended) including large-scale WordPress e-commerce, membership, and informational sites with high traffic volume.
Okay, now to the really fun part. Why did we choose a frog to be our brand mascot?
Mikel Bruce, TinyFrog CEO/founder says, “It’s actually a pretty simple story. I was trying to choose a name most people would have a positive association with, and most people do like frogs. We also love the fact that frogs have evolved to live in all different climates and are known for being indicators of environmental changes — because, in a similar way, we’re always trying to innovate and be on the cutting edge of changes in technology.”
You still may be wondering, “What does a tiny frog have in common with a 20-person web agency in San Diego?” We’re sharing four unique traits of Baja California Treefrogs which directly correlate with our team and why we are so passionate about what we do.
Local to San Diego
While many Baja California Treefrogs exist on the Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, and Catalina Islands, they also span throughout Southern California, including San Diego.
The TinyFrog team has been located in San Diego for 15 years, and we have worked with tons of companies, non-profits, and institutions that call San Diego “home.” A few of our local clients include San Diego Center for Children, National University, and University of California San Diego.
Always Adapting and Innovating
Baja California Treefrogs have evolved to live in a wide variety of habitats, including forest, woodland, chaparral, grassland, pastures, desert streams and oases, and urban areas. They also change color to adapt to the air temperature and humidity (super cool!)
The TinyFrog team started with just two people and has grown to a diverse team of 20 people. While our main service has always been WordPress web design and development, we’ve had to adapt our hosting services to meet the security requirements of the platform because of it being heavily targeted by hackers. With this in mind, we offer premium secured hosting and maintenance to protect our clients’ website investments, and we now have an entire development team dedicated to maintaining the highest security. In fact, our hosting and maintenance clients have increased by 50% in just two years.
Authenticity
Baja California Treefrogs are one of the very few frog species known for the classic “ribbit” vocalization, which is native to only a small handful of frog species from the North American Pacific Coastal regions.
Interestingly enough, the call of the Baja California Treefrog was used as the background sound effect for countless old movies, regardless of where the movie was set. The majority of frogs are labeled with this inaccurate trait of being able to “ribbit” whereas only select treefrogs have this ability.
TinyFrog embodies authentic traits as well! We specialize in custom web design, which means we never use templates or cookie-cutter sites. A fully customized approach has distinct advantages both in terms of design and functionality. Our web designers can integrate your brand into every aspect of the design, messaging, and functionality. Our goal is to build a branded site that highlights your business’ competitive edge. Our designers are also fully versed in User Experience (UX), the use of visual elements, graphic treatments, and information architecture to create an authentic experience that engages the user.
Team Approach
Baja California Treefrogs work in unison to coordinate their vocalizations, creating a frog chorus. One male acts as the “chorus master” and starts calling, while other males in the vicinity gradually join in as the chorus swells.
The TinyFrog Team also takes a synergistic approach into heart. Our clients have access to a strategist, designer, developer, project manager, and WordPress trainer. Each team member has very specific skills, but none of them have a single specialty. Our 20 professionals are adept at everything, which ultimately benefits you!
