This is Mikel with TinyFrog Technologies. I want to talk a little bit about website security. We have a lot of companies that own WordPress websites that have been contacting us lately because they’re having issues with their websites having been hacked. It’s a real common thing that happens nowadays for just about any business and there’s a lot of things that can be done to increase the security on a real basic level for your WordPress website.
Upgrade Your Website Security in 3 Steps
1.Keep software and plugins updated.
Probably the most important thing that we try to convey to our clients is to make sure that the website’s software is up to date. If a website has more complicated plugins and applications, it can be a little more sophisticated for maintenance. Because of this, the most important thing to keep a website secure is to make sure the software, the plugins, and the core software is up to date.
2. Take daily backups of entire database
The second thing is to make sure that you are taking regular backups of the website. It’s impossible to keep a website 100% secure. Therefore, if website were to get hacked and goes down, it’s really critical to have a recent backup of your site. If you’re managing content and updating your website frequently on a weekly or monthly basis, it’s really important that your website is backed up with that kind of frequency. If your site goes down and you need to upload a new version of your site and it’s out of date, that will cause you to have to re-do all the content and anything you’ve done with the site recently.
3. Set up security monitoring software
The third thing is there’s some really good security software out there nowadays. It can monitor a site and help keep it safe and secure. When we host and maintain our clients’ websites, we really focus on that, integrating security software.
Furthermore, most traditional hosts don’t have backups. They don’t maintain the software, and they don’t necessarily have security monitoring in place. As a result, those are things you usually after bring in on your own. If you have any questions about website security and hosting and maintenance, feel free to contact us.
