Video On Your Website
Hello this is Mikel Bruce CEO of Tiny Frog Technologies. I’d like to talk a little bit about having a video on your website. I’d say the majority of the websites out there actually have video on them or even several videos. And in most cases it’s strongly recommended to actually not have the video reside on the same server as the website, but have the video on a video sharing site such as YouTube or Vimeo.
The reason being because if you start adding video to your website, especially if the video is long or if you have multiple videos, it can really significantly impact the speed and performance, and how quickly your website loads. Many website hosts say that you have unlimited space on your website but that’s very rarely true unless you’re paying a lot of money and you have a dedicated server.
Video Limitations
In most cases there are pretty significant limitations in terms of the resources that you have allocated to your hosting account. And one of the biggest drags on that is video. So it’s strongly recommended to have video reside on a video sharing site, YouTube being the most popular. And it’s very easy for you to embed video or for your web developer to embed that video. So it looks like it’s on your web site but it’s actually residing on a video sharing site. And for a lot of people, one of the concerns a lot of people have is the fact that it may play other videos after many years. You can actually go into the settings in YouTube and Vimeo and you an control those types of things.
Recommendations
So once again we always recommend our clients have their videos reside on a video sharing site, and then embed it so it looks like it’s on your web page or your website. And that can really have a big impact on how your website performs.
So if you have any questions on this or anything related to having video on a website, please feel free to give us a call. This is Mikel with Tiny Frog Technologies.
