Hello, this is Mikel with TinyFrog Technologies. I want to talk a little bit about how and why to use video on your website. In terms of the how, we definitely recommend it.
Video can be very engaging; they can be very compelling. Many people, when they land on a website and they see a video, there’s a much better chance that they’ll actually click on and watch it versus actually reading something, so it can be a really great way to connect with your website visitors. And there’s a couple different types of videos that can go on a website. If you have a very prominent page, like your home page or a main service page, it’s probably probably not the best place just to have a low quality, just you know, iPhone video.
That’s probably the place you want to position a much higher quality, highly produced video. For your home page or your main service pages, it’s probably more important to have a high quality, a more highly produced video that’s really telling your story, who you are as a company, what you do, what services you offer, and why they should consider using your services.
Other types of videos can be more casual videos like these that can go on your blog. It’s a great way to build out content on your blog, to build out educational information, and they’re easier to produce and you can produce more of them in a more cost effective manner as well. Also, you can have animated videos that’s telling your story as well. That can be very helpful.
A couple of the rules about video: One of which is to keep your videos relatively short. You probably have this experience where you’re going to a website and/or YouTube in general and you see a 10 minute video. You’re probably much less considerate to watching that versus a shorter video. So as a rule of thumb, we recommend keeping videos at two minutes or under in order to keep them engaging and keep people interested in them.
And then, you know, how many videos on your website. You know, one consideration is having an overview video on your home page and maybe on your key service pages, have a couple of videos there. I wouldn’t have recommend having multiple videos on every page of your website. That can actually be overwhelming and that can actually take away from the user experience. So, the goal of the video is to enhance the user experience versus kind of taking away from the user experience if they’re used effectively.
