Hi I’m Maria and I’m here to talk to you about calls to action. Have you ever driven down the freeway and thought about the freeway signs? Chances are probably not, but they are really important because they tell you where to go. Well, call-to-action for a website (CTAs) actually do the same thing, they direct your visitor to tell them where you want them to go and what action they should take. An effective call-to-action, which clearly communicates what a visitor can expect, will help move them down that sales funnel to eventually become a new client or a new customer.
So how do you make sure to have effective CTAs? The first thing is you want to make sure that you have a good design. Ask yourself do they stand out somehow? You also want to make sure that they have high visibility. For example, if you have a panel on your website for a particular page that has a paragraph, have that call to action separated out so that it clearly denotes to the visitor where you want them to go.
You also want to make sure that they have a clear benefit, so that they’re enticing. You want to make sure that they have actionable text, so in other words: learn more, discover more, buy now. Also, make sure that they’re short, no more than five to seven words, not a sentence.
And the last thing that you want to make sure that you do with your CTAs is to implore a sense of urgency. Make sure that the visitor knows that they need to take advantage of what it is that you want them to do right now so they don’t miss out.
