Hi, this is Mikel with TinyFrog Technologies. Today I’d like to talk a little bit about terrible navigation. I’d say the vast majority of websites that I visit have terrible website navigation and things have changed a lot, especially with mobile responsive and compatible websites.
If someone lands on your website while on a mobile device or tablet and the navigation is overwhelming, they’ll probably leave the site right away. It’s much easier to navigate a site on a desktop or laptop. It’s more difficult to navigate the site on a mobile device or tablet. We’re recommending that our clients completely eliminate drop down menus. A lot of our clients will say, “But I have so much information that I need to put onto my website. How am I going to do that without a complicated series of drop down menus?” That means you’re probably putting way too much on your website. Your website should not be that heavy. Most people will not spend the time to go through multiple pages and multiple drop downs and read tons of content. A website is really designed to give someone just enough information to motivate them to contact you.
That way it lends itself to a simple, clean and easy-to-use website with simple navigation. Our previous TinyFrog Technologies website had 20 pages. Our current website has 7 to 8 pages outside of our blog.
So I strongly recommend simplifying your site and simplifying your navigation. It will make a much more compelling user experience, especially on a mobile device or on a tablet. This is Mikel with TinyFrog Technologies. If we can help with your web design needs, please contact us. Thank you.
