You probably have a great idea about how you want your website to look and function. Perhaps it’s an e-commerce site or an informational site. It’s best to put together a short list that’s concise so that when we talk to you, we have a clear understanding about what we’re going to build for you.
The first thing to consider is when people arrive at your home page, what you want them to see and what you want to present to them. Our strategists also will help you determine that, but it’s good to think about on your own. The second item is what menu buttons you want in your menu. When people click on a certain button, where do they go and what happens? If we’re creating a membership site, we usually have a login button, a sign up button and a button to log out.
Third is what types of people will log into the site. If your website will be an e-commerce site, maybe you will have a customer that will save different products into their shopping carts. Or, you may have a social interaction site and only one type of person would login and that would be your clients. Then, you always have an administrator and that’s you – the person who manages the entire site.
The fourth thing to consider when starting your website project is the different pages on the site. You’ll have a home page, login page, or sign up page. Keep thinking about your ideas from there. Lastly, when one of your members logs into the site, what are the different things they can do? Maybe they can save a list of favorites and maintain their favorite things, or they could maintain their shopping cart.
Finally, consider what an anonymous and new visitor can do on your website. You definitely want them to be able to contact you. You’ll need a contact page and contact form. If you have a list of your locations, maybe you want them to be able to view a map. Anonymous or new visitors are very important.
