Hello, this is Mikel with TinyFrog Technologies. I want to talk a little bit today about building a website for a construction company or a contractor. We tend to do a lot of websites in that particular niche and we’ve had a lot of companies come to us who are contractors and construction companies. I’d like to share some of the things to consider if you’re a construction company or contractor and you’re looking to redo your website or to build a website from scratch.

1. Make It Relevant to Visitors
There are a couple things to consider, and one of which is we call relevancy. It’s really important that the website is relevant to your visitors. So it’s really important to evaluate what types of organizations or people you’re appealing to and what they’re looking to accomplish when they land on the website, what their needs are, so it’s important to evaluate those things when you’re strategizing the website.
2. Custom Over Template Design
Secondly is the quality of the website is a almost a direct reflection of the organization so your website should be modern. It should be easy to navigate. It should be clean. It should be high-quality design so I definitely recommend focusing more on a custom design versus a template.
3. Create a Strong Project Portfolio
And the third thing to focus on which is probably the most important thing for a for a contractor or a construction company is a portfolio section of the site – a section of the site in which you’re displaying or showing your projects. One of the things that we focus on heavily for construction companies and contractors is building a really strong portfolio area on the website.
It depends on how many projects do you do, can we categorize those projects into different areas, what kind of imagery do you have and/or videos to represent those projects, and we create a custom portfolio section based on all of those different factors that we evaluate based on the information, the content we can receive from our clients.
It’s really important to take some time to discern you know what’s going to go in the portfolio. If you don’t have a lot of projects we may specialize more on a case study versus a large display of the different projects. So portfolio section for a contracting company is really important.
