Hi this is Jessica with TinyFrog Technologies and today I’d like to talk about the difference between SEO and PPC. Whenever you are talking about a website, you’ll often hear these acronyms discussed.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization and it basically means you are adjusting content and certain things about your site, so that it’s really easy for the search engines to understand and eventually you may be able to build up rankings where if someone searches a certain keyword on a search engine, your website would come up towards the top of the listings.
What is PPC or Pay Per Click?
Now, PPC is a different acronym and it actually stands for pay per click. The most common type of digital marketing pay per click campaigns are with Google Adwords and Facebook advertising or social media advertising. So, after a client finishes a site design project, we often hear this question of “What do I do next? Do I do SEO or PPC?”
And it really depends on your marketing goals and your budget. But in general, you want to think about the fact that SEO is more of a long-term strategy. You can’t expect to do something today and then rank suddenly tomorrow for a keyword.
You really have to be ready to put in the effort and time to work on your site and build up those rankings. And even once you’ve achieved that, you really have to stay on top of your site and keep producing content and things like that.
How to Utilize Both PPC & SEO
But you really don’t have to think about SEO versus PPC. There’s actually great ways to use both strategies for your marketing. For instance, we will often use Google Adwords to test certain keywords and what’s great about pay per click is that you can set aside a certain budget and test it for a certain period of time.
Then, you can see if that keyword is producing good results for your business. Once we do this, we’re able to see that and then figure out, okay, maybe this keyword is one that we want to work on for SEO and do more of a long-term strategy for.
