Hello, this is Mikel with TinyFrog Technologies and I shot a video recently outside in our parking lot in front of my car. I’m talking about website maintenance and I want to talk a little bit about WordPress maintenance from a different angle. I want to talk about database maintenance and how to optimize your WordPress database.
So, very much like your car, if you neglect certain things like changing the oil and changing your tires and so forth and so on, over time you could have performance issues because your car could break down or could not run properly. And very similar on a website, if you’re not maintaining the database on a WordPress site, the website could start to slow down as well.
So WordPress sites, over time, if you’re adding content and if you’re adding images, if you’re doing blog posts, if you have an e-commerce website and your website is storing orders and so forth and so on, the database can get bloated and get very big and the website will slow down almost irregardless of the hosting server that you’re on.
It’s very important – kind of like maintaining your car – that a website developer is, with some frequency, going in evaluating the size of the database and looking for areas to clean up and optimize your WordPress database.
And we’re currently maintaining about 600 different websites – WordPress sites – and we’re constantly evaluating the size of the databases and cleaning them up when possible. Sometimes it’s reducing the size of images, sometimes it’s removing content that’s unnecessary.
If you have a WordPress site and if it’s running slow for whatever reason, you might need to do some speed testing and cleaning up the database and that’s something we can definitely help you with and if we’re maintaining your website, we’re already doing that.
