I don’t know if you’re like me but when you land on a website when there’s a lot of text to read. One of the things that I do is I leave the website unless I have to be there. I personally I think I’m like a lot of people – if you have a website is forcing you or if a website is forcing the user to have to engage more than they want to or to have to do more work than they’re really interested in doing it’s really going in the opposite direction than it that it should be.
So one of the things that we always encourage our clients do is be really succinct and really strategic with the content in the messaging on their website. As an example we just recently did our website, five months ago, and our website went from a twelve-page website to a five-page website and all of the content on our website adds up to less than one page that’s a total cumulative of content discounting the blog.
So it’s really important nowadays that when you’re redesigning your website this is not just for mobile users where it’s the most important but for desktop users and tablet users as well you’re being really succinct with your content dense content is no longer something that interest the average user. One of the things I recommend is trying not to have more than one sentence in a row if you have to do the sentences try to space them out so it doesn’t look intimidating or dense and then be really succinct. Your website is really not designed to this unless you have an e-commerce website your website is really not designed to sell your products or services your website is typically designed to build credibility to build interest and to encourage someone to reach out to you and contact you but if they leave your website before they connect with it or before they engage with it it’s going it’s doing the exact opposite of what it’s supposed to.
So I definitely encourage you to get a content writer for your website someone who knows how to write market copy or messaging that’s designed to engage on users versus push them away.
