Hi I’m Lilly and I’m with Tiny Frog Technology and today we’re going to talk about does your website need content strategy. Well let me start by telling you that Evermore published some research by Chao Liu and their Microsoft research team. They analyzed how long people spent on web pages. And it was ten seconds.
So do you need content strategy? The answer is absolutely. The good news is this research showed that the longer people stayed on the site – the longer they stayed on the site. So what you need to do is put your catchiest content up there – up front and center. Hook them and keep them going from there. This is where content strategy comes in. And what content strategy is is the art of using clear communication to drive
action and convey information. That communication can be conveyed through text, through imagery, through videos, or anything else that is important to share to get this information over to your users.
After only five seconds on a web page, there’s almost an infinite chance that a user will leave. But by 40 seconds they have an equal chance of staying four minutes. So content strategy includes thinking about things like:
– What pages will your website have?
– What’s going to be on those pages?
– How your blog will be updated?
If content strategy of a particular page is important to you, think about having a custom design for that page. That means that the page will be designed around exactly the information you want to share. So content strategy isn’t just about what you want to put on the website to start, but it’s really about creating a game plan for your website that will support sharing content with your users for a long time too.
