Hi I’m Brent Curry with Tiny Frog Technologies search marketing specialist. Today I want to talk to you a little bit about the change in layout for the Google search results. Basically, these changes to Google’s new layout affects organic and paid search results. You may have noticed this a couple months back they’ve changed the layout. It used to be when you did a search you got a couple of ads at the top and then a bunch down the right-hand side of the page. You’ll notice that layout has now changed. The ads on the right-hand side of the page are gone. And more ads are showing up at the top of the page as well and their beginning to start to utilize that space further.
So if you’re targeting organic search as a way to get your traffic to your website just have to be aware that these changes are occurring. Organic search is slowly moving down the page so even if you’re top-ranked organically there could be 4 or 5 paid ads above you. The local search results could be above you. A video section could be above you. So even though your number-one organically you’re still below the fold down the page. So it kind of makes the case for paid advertisements and other types of services.
In addition to this Google is rolling out a new type of text ad. So where before there were shorter ads you had one headline and too short lines of text to describe your advertisement. They’re now coming out with an expanded text ad that has two headlines and a longer line of text that you can use to describe it. So much more real estate to use, their using up their real estate at the top of the page to make this more prominently, so some new features rolling out in AdWords to to leverage that space as well.
