Hi, I’m Maria Newman. I’m a web strategist with TinyFrog Technologies. Today I want to talk to you about creating effective call to actions on your website.
When someone lands on your website, what is it that you want them to do? Do you want them to give you a call? Do you want them to fill out a form? Perhaps you want them to sign up for a newsletter. Whatever it is, you want to make sure that your call to actions accomplish whatever goal you have for your website.
So, there are five key elements for creating effective call to actions on your website. They need to be clear, they need to be relevant, they should be persuasive, they should be consistent and you want to make sure that they are well designed.
So, let me explain a little bit more about those five key elements. Clarity is super important. That comes down to the language that you use for your call to action. Make sure that it’s concise and that it’s to the point.
Next is relevancy. It has to do with how applicable that CTA is to the process for your particular industry. So, for example, if you’re a financial planner perhaps you want to schedule a free consultation with your visitors. So, make sure that that is in fact what you’re call to action says. You can say free consultation and then the process by which is going to be the free consultation.
You also want to make sure that your call to actions are persuasive. You definitely do not want to be pushy. Pushy call to actions, that’s going to turn somebody away really fast. So make sure you’re persuasive in the language that you use.
You also want to make sure that they’re consistent. You can have, and we definitely encourage that you have several call to actions throughout your website, throughout your pages. Just make sure that they’re all saying the same thing so that you create that consistency and that expectation for your visitor.
The last key element is to make sure that they are well designed. You definitely want to make sure that they are a brighter color, perhaps they’re are bold, perhaps they’re all caps, but make them stand out from everything else that’s on the page wherever they are on the page so that your visitor knows where to go, what to fill out and what action to take.
