Hi I’m Lilly with TinyFrog and today we’re going to talk about how many pages does a website need. When I do strategy for clients with TinyFrog this is always one of the first questions that I’m asked and it’s an important one. And what you have to consider is there are two things pulling for your attention. One is from the search engine perspective where you ideally do want a lot of content and a lot for the search engines to pick up. And the other is the user experience perspective. These are sometimes at odds so any information in this video should bend to the recommendations of your SEO specialist or you’re paid search consultant.
But from a user perspective, which is arguably one of the most important things on your website. Users come to your website to find information. So when you’re thinking about how many pages your website needs keep in mind the less clicks you have them do the better. If a user can go to a single page to find the information they need to encourage them to take action it’s to your benefit to have fewer pages. And in fact if you go to the newer websites on the internet you’ll find that they have simplified menus we’re seeing a little bit less of dropdowns not completely gone but just a little bit less. But they’re moving away from them when it is possible to condense information in a better way for the user. And although single-page websites are on trend never-ending pages are not. A lot of times people come in and they say well I just want to have that one page website that I’ve seen other places, but in order to say what they want to say you’re going to be scrolling forever. That doesn’t mean it’s the right choice.
How many pages your website needs is really a strategic choice. Take into consideration what your budget is, what’s happening in your industry, and what your competitors are doing. As for budget one of the wonderful things about the WordPress platform that we work on is that it really is flexible platform and you have the ability to add new pages and content down the line when you’re ready. So you may start with fewer pages and grow your site as your business grows. In the strategy phase we will talk about all the information you want to share with your users. And create the right menu and page structure to get you there. So how many pages does your website need? Come in and we’ll find out. Please feel free to give us a call.
