Hi this is Jessica with TinyFrog Technologies and today i’d like to talk about adding tracking codes to your website. So tracking codes are used for marketing and for a lot of third-party applications like Google Analytics, Facebook, if you’re doing Facebook advertising or Google Adwords.
And it’s important to set up these tracking codes on your website so that these third parties can track various things about your website traffic or conversions on the site. Now what you’ll need to do when you’re adding a tracking code is you’ll actually need to start by going to the third party application. So when we’re building a new website for clients, we’ll typically request the google analytics tracking code at some point during the development phase and what you’ll need to do is go to your google analytics account and actually generate a custom tracking code.
It’s typically a little bit of a javascript line of code and then you’ll send that to our team and it’s best if a website developer adds the code to your website because it needs to be placed in either the header or the footer of the website and this is all done behind the scenes.
It doesn’t show up on the live site. And once we set up the tracking code and the site goes live another tip that we recommend to clients is to make sure to go to Google Analytics or go to Facebook and make sure that the data is being passed along to that resource.
A lot of times clients may forget to do that and then there can be a hiccup and things and they need to actually adjust the tracking code or get a new one. So if you have any questions about adding a tracking code to your site definitely reach out to our team.
