My name is Mikel Bruce, CEO of TinyFrog Technologies. I want to talk a little bit about evaluating a WordPress development team. If you have a WordPress site or if you’re considering investing in a WordPress site, most people are looking at the design side of things.
The design, which is very important, it’s really critical that you have a high-quality modern, contemporary design, but a lot of companies don’t really consider what’s happening behind the scenes with the company that’s doing the development.
Evaluating a WordPress Development Team
1. How experienced are the developers?
It’s really important if you’re working with a web company or if you’re wanting to get a WordPress site or you’re wanting to get development work done, that you’re working with a team that has a really qualified, backend development team. A lot of times really don’t want to work with a front end developer that has more of a focus on the design and the CSS and things like that.
You really want to work with a company that has you know hopefully more than one developer because oftentimes if something happens to that developer or if they get busy, you want to make sure they have backup developers. For example, we have five developers, so we can work on a number of projects and dedicate multiple resources to projects if need be.
2. Do they specialize in WordPress & custom development?
It’s really important that the development team is very familiar with WordPress in general. WordPress is a large platform, there’s a lot of plugins & things can go wrong if it’s not built well. You can have performance and security issues.
You want to make sure that your team is familiar with not only what plugins to choose and recommend, but sometimes it involves customizing plugins, modifying plugins, even potentially building a custom plugin if you have functionality that’s not available with an existing plugin.
3. Are they familiar with the entire WordPress ecosystem?
So you need to really consider the fact that as your business evolves and grows, your website really needs to evolve with it, so it’s critical to have a WordPress development team to be able to support you in that growth as things come up that you can’t even imagine now. so you know WordPress is a very, very large platform.
There’s a lot that can be done with it so it’s really important you have a team that can support your growth and also is very familiar with all the nuances that go along with the WordPress ecosystem. So if you have any questions about WordPress development, you know that’s an area we have a lot of experience with obviously, so feel free to contact us.
